Cavort is a sweet, spicy, floral scent created for Men and Women in 2021 by perfumer Gael Montero.

Review

This scent is bright and rich. Saffron is immediately apparent, flanked closely with the interesting fruity nuance of Davana. Orange Flower stands out amongst a floral heart, eventually fading into Rose, which stands out more during the dry down. The richness of Patchouli, Labdanum and Incense add a spicy earthiness that intrigues the senses. You catch glimpses of the Cinnamon here and there, but it feels like it mostly stays just under the surface. There is an interesting sparkling quality about it, that is a familiar characteristic of Saffron, but something more at the same time. The overall feel is bright and invigorating, and earthy and spicy at the same time. It’s clean, and sharp, and sweet, and calming, and almost confusing to the senses….such as is a new romantic pursuit. This one sits a little closer to the skin, as far as projection goes, but has great longevity. It can be worn any time, place, or occasion, and in most any weather. It has been compared to Initio Parfums Side Effect a lot, but it’s not quite that. Maybe if Side Effect merged with Sun Force from The Harmonist. It has been compared to many Rose and Saffron fragrances, but is kind of its own thing. 

Inspiration

Cavort is inspired by the exciting and intense time during the beginnings of a romantic encounter. ‘Cavort’ is defined as jumping or dancing around excitedly; informally as, essentially, to unabashedly pursue your desires. It invites you to embrace the anticipation of the unknown.

Notes

This scent opens with a velvety spiciness. Saffron is immediately apparent, bringing its unique fresh, sweet and  spicy essence to the mix. Davana brightens the Saffron, intensifying the sweetness with its fruity, Tea-like essence. Ylang Ylang and Jasmine lie just under the surface, boosting first a note of Orange Blossom, which eventually fades to let Rose Absolute shine throughout the dry down. This is helped with the Geranium that is found in the opening of this scent. The base brings warmer, earthier, and slightly sharper tones with Patchouli, Labdanum, and Incense. Sandalwood adds a gentle creamy woody touch to the finish, keeping things earthy. The Cinnamon, which is found in the opening of the scent, becomes noticeable later, remaining just under the surface throughout the dry down, adding its iconic sweet spiciness in a gentle way.
